Hell No! Objectors at work

I made an interesting observation this morning.

In every company there’s always someone who everyone agrees needs to be in on the discussion anytime something might be changed. I’ve always assumed it was because the person was the most knowledgeable or had been there the longest and therefore had the most experience with the situation. Today I’ve realized that it’s a combination of knowledge, responsibility and most important — objection.

It’s the people that say “No”, or more often “Hell no!” that get invited to all the meetings. Everyone knows they’re not going to like you touching their perceived territory so you might as well start wearing them down from the beginning. It’s annoying and makes you want to find ways to work around them rather than with them.

So, if you want to entrench yourself more at your workplace, maybe you should start saying “Hell no!” more often.
